Homebuild - Super V15

Blimey, I cannot believe it! Who does not have one of those?

My nearest LBS didn’t have one. Surprising, though, the local very-well-known frame builder also didn’t have one. But, he mostly builds road bikes, so maybe that’s why. I think the 1-1/2 is more common these days.

The bike shop that had it is my new go-to shop...

That's super badass! I hope you like it when it's done.
If not and it needs a good home, I'm not too far away and I'm sure it would fit in my van...

Nah, if it ride like crap, I’ll fix it. If I can’t, it will still look cool hanging in the garage.

More pics. Put the seat, brake calipers and cranks on last night.

And, no, my wife did not catch me working on it in the living room. She went to bed early...

The two way adjustable boom and bars seems like a really good idea! Lets you lower everything down but still have the solid connection.

To be honest, I wasn’t originally going to make the BB adjustable. But, I drew the boom tube longer than it actually was. So, that was an easy and logical fix. Plus, now I don’t have to drill the seat in multiple positions to get the ergonomics right. I can just slide the boom a little one way or the other.

The handlebars are a must for adjustment.

It is automatic unless you change it yourself. I think it is based on number of posts. Therefore, mine was changed to reflect the NOT guru that I am. ;)

Just clear coat it, okay.

Nah. Too many blemishes in my braze joints. If I was going to clear-coat it, I'd have to go back and fill them in with brass. I 'm not that ambitious. I'll just fill with epoxy where necessary and paint it matte black - same as my other bikes.

Still too cold to really ride, but it’s super sunny. So, good enough for a maiden ride. Pushed off on about the 4th try and rode it around the block. Not too bad I think for my first try ever on a MBB.

But - it’s going to take some getting used to. The ‘wiggly in the middle’ feeling is just weird. Take my feet off the pedals, and it feels just like my mid racer. Being smooth on the pedals I think must be key. That, and having good grip tape on the bars (I don’t have any yet).

I think my son got a video of at least my successful push off. I’ll post a link in a little bit...

Oh Yah. Now you should watch the learning to ride videos... They will accelerate your learning so you can accelerate yourself. But that was an awesome start for a low seat angle 4th attempt. And give it a lower gear - one that gives some resistance but is easy to spin smoothly instead of puuuush...wait....puuuush. It will make it easier.

Lowest gear right now is a 58-23. I’d like to get the 12-27 Ultegra cassette, but they’re harder to find.

I watched Robert Holler’s video tips for riding the Cruzbikes. I’ll try the push instead of pull thing tomorrow. It’s supposed to be in the 60’s...

Oh, and it weighs in at 27lbs right now, with pedals. But, I am building up a lightweight wheel set for it that should drop a pound and 3/4.

! ! ! 5ifty-8 ! ! ! No wonder you weren't worried about slightly higher weight tubing - you must have tree trunks pushing those cranks.

Same gearing as my midracer. I need that much to be able to pedal out on some of the downhills around here. Certainly Waterford Hills, when we get to go back.
