    Radical Design seat bag

I wanted to give this thread a bump and ask Jack a few questions. As winter approaches, the need to carry extra clothes and such becomes critical. I don't have means, as of yet, to do such and I'm not wild about a rack. The other thing is, I would like a bag that's easy on and off that will...

I was going to ask the same thing.... Especially on bumpy streets; any wheel skip? Mark

"Long range" Silvio for daily use

It's your bike, do as you see fit. It seems a little like converting a Mercedes SLR to run on propane, though. I'm with JonB, too, I don't see it saving you any riding time. The extra weight will slow you down when pedalling.. I don't know. Good luck with whatever you choose to do.. Mark

Solution required for seat bracket placement challenge

So, does the seat bracket not fit down onto the tubing? The tubing doesn't look to be that fat that the bracket shouldn't suck right down on top. The bracket is plenty strong, if that's your concern. Regarding the cables, you will only need one of those; the brake. The rear derailleur cable...

Solution required for seat bracket placement challenge

I think if it were a high-end aluminum frame, where the tubes are paper thin, you might have an issue. If your frame is anything like mine, that aluminum tube is probably thicker than the bracket you're clamping to it. I wouldn't worry about it. As long as your seat is solid and doesn't rock...

    First Flight

I think all of us struggled, to some degree, with the construction of our bicycles. I found that most assemblies were detailed in photos in one fashion, or the other, if you flipped through the manual enough. I agree it probably could have been done better, but it seems adequate. The...

    Wear Sunscreen

The sunscreen video was cool.... Thanks for sharing! Nice.... Metric century (your first?) and over 14 mph average speed... Good job! Mark

    My next conversion

Looking forward to seeing the pictures. I have plans for another frame, too. Mine is a 24" wheeled kids mountain bike. I can squeeze 700c wheels (without tires) into the frame, so 650c should work just peachy. I'm going to cold set the rear triangle so I don't have to run the wide axle, then...

    First Flight

You will need a quill stem to 1-1/8" adapter; a pretty common piece at any bike shop. Just have her watch you having fun, she'll come around as she sees you buying into it. Mark

    First Flight

Alan, The insert is for 1" steer tubes to adapt them to 1-1/8", which it sounds like you already have 1-1/8". I'll tell you the truth, it's a rare occurence when a person can jump on a Cruzbike and ride like they've been doing it for years. I have seen it happen, but most of us experienced...

    Commute to work

This week, I stepped up the effort in my commuting. I had been riding my 40 mile RT commute twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday. Last week, I did a Wednesday evening ride to test the waters and I felt fine, so this week I rode Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. To tell the truth, I don't know...

That sux you had mechanical troubles. Sounds like you didn't get much of a mechanic, either... They could have just popped a different freehub on there off of even a junk wheel, just to get you going... All that takes is a big allen wrench. It's not really recommended to service freehubs...

Oh Cruzbike, you spoiled me rotten

No, I think you have to sell vegetable seed packets to get a free bicycle. Mark

    Getting ready for winter...

   Hey, hold on a second!... It gets down to near freezing here a few times during the winter. Lows in the 40's, certainly. I know you crazy canucks would be sunbatheing in the 40's, but we think that's pretty darned cold! You're right, though, on the coldest of days...

Oh Cruzbike, you spoiled me rotten

Use it to introduce a friend to cycling. Take them on some rides, show them why it's great to ride. Then, maybe they will either buy your bike, or buy a Cruzbike. Mark

Mississippi River Valley and "wine country" NY

I attack short hills in similar fashion, except I spin the entire time. Moderate to long hills, I downshift before I really need to and increase my RPM's. Riding in rain is brutal. There is no two ways about it. Reeling in roadies is fun. It's most fun when they know it's coming and they...

Oh Cruzbike, you spoiled me rotten

I agree. I just finished up building my wife's replacement bike based on my old Trek 5200 carbon fibre frame. It rides as nice as you can expect; I did three double centuries on it. But when I test rode it the other night..... GOOD LORD!! Mark
